Spring in the mountains

The snow slowly gives way to the lush green of the grass and trees. Nature awakens and shows its colorful side. You just can't wait until you can stroll around Lake Cauma again or enjoy the magnificent view on a springtime walk around Foppa? Until you can ride down the Runca Trail again or get some surf feeling on the pump track? Visit Flims Laax Falera in April and May and experience spring in the mountains with us! Lots of fun, relaxation and experiences await you even after the winter season is over.

What's there to be discovered?

When the turquoise water of Lake Cauma reappears under the ice and the first crocuses bloom on the meadows around Foppa, then it's spring in Flims Laax Falera. Experience how the local nature awakens – no matter if you prefer to do so on foot or by bike. This spring we offer you varied leisure activities earlier than usual from April 16, 2021, so you don't have to wait until summer to visit your favorite destination again.

In Flims Laax Falera you will find a variety of natural structures at four different altitudes. Each location enchants with its very own charm: while there is still snow around Crap Sogn Gion at 2,252 m above sea level, you can already enjoy the mild spring weather while hiking and biking in Foppa at 1,400 m above sea level. Further down, at 1,000 m above sea level, the Flims Forest with Lake Cauma and Lake Cresta invites you to take a relaxing walk and linger. Or you may be drawn to even lower altitudes to the imposing Rhine Gorge at 600 m above sea level to explore it on foot or by canoe.

Either way, you are guaranteed an eventful spring in Flims Laax Falera. Discover our highlights now.

Rhine Gorge

The Rhine Gorge between Reichenau and Ilanz is probably one of the most spectacular and unique landscapes in Graubünden, if not in the Alps. The special climate here not only produces a diverse flora and fauna, but also allows visitors to discover the Rhine Gorge on foot early in the year without snow. Along the Rhine you hike in the middle of the impressive ‘Swiss Grand Canyon’, past sandbanks, wild rapids and through dense floodplain forests. If you would like a little more adventure, discover the Rhine Gorge in the open Rhine Gorge Adventure Train or from the water while rafting or canoeing.

Mountain lakes

The three well-known lakes – Lake Cauma, Lake Cresta and Lake Laax – are worth a visit in spring as well. Embedded in the spectacular landslide landscape of the region, they invite you to linger and enjoy the sun. Although they are several kilometers apart, they are connected by a widely ramified underground karst system and are naturally fed with water underground. In summer, they reach a pleasant temperature of up to 24 degrees. In spring, they fill up with meltwater from the mountain. Are you brave enough to venture into the cool water of one of the mountain lakes?

Flims Forest

You can spend hours in the magical Flims Forest with its seemingly endless branching paths. Well-maintained natural roads or smaller paths will take you to your destination – if you have one that is, because here you might as well just stroll around and dream. Follow the Connbächli to the viewing platform 'il Spir' and marvel at the unique view into the Rhine Gorge, which is also called the 'Swiss Grand Canyon'. Or walk deeper into the forest and discover Lake Cresta near Trin hidden between the trees. Relaxation is guaranteed, because the magical tranquillity of the Flims Forest lets many visitors forget the time.

What’s more soothing than feeling the mild spring wind on your face during the ride on the chairlift to Foppa? A little refreshment at the mountain station and off you go on one of the numerous hiking trails in front of the impressive backdrop of the Flimserstein. Here it is worthwhile to pause every now and then to marvel at the enormous landscape, which was formed by one of the largest landslide events in the Alps about 10,000 years ago. Do you crave a little more action? The area around Foppa can also be explored by bike. And if the weather gods are kind to us, you can already go biking on the Runca Trail, which is one of the longest flow trails in Europe, from Startgels. Off to Foppa you go!
